Giving up on winter gardening

I was trying to four-season garden, but with a little bed, hoops, and plastic clipped on, it is simply not working. A snow or ice storm collapses the low tunnel, and in wind, the plastic gets ripped off and a dozen clips go flying. Try hunting for clips in the snow. That's fun! I've tried weighing down the edges of the plastic with sandbags, but the strong winds pull it out from under. I've tried all sorts of things, but nothing beats the wind gusts we get So, unwilling to build a cold frame, which is the only way to do it here, I'm giving up on it. Besides, when the ground is like it is right now--sodden, half-frozen, half slush--I am not motivated to get bundled up to walk out there! I should be able to get some veg through December most years, and March starts a new season, but mid-December to mid-March, I'll only be seed-starting indoors. Ah well, I gave it a try! It just doesn't work here, not with plastic high or low tunnels (probably why I've never seen one around here, lol).

I start the peppers indoors in a week. Looking forward to getting the seeds started!
