crazy busy

I've been weeding, spreading wood chips, weeding, planting, weeding, harvesting, weeding.mowing. And did I mention weeding? I'll have all the wood chips in the right vicinity (if not all raked to perfection) by Sunday, four days from now. And a good thing, for then I have to take care of a sister's gardens too while she's on a two-week vacation!

We've had a cold, dreary week, and a lot of plants are sitting there grumbling and not growing. Or worse, losing bottom leaves and not growing. Everybody is complaining about it around here. Cannas refused to come up, roses won't think about doing much, and my eggplant! They look like they'd rather go back to Taiwan.

I am harvesting a bit--salad stuff.

And flowers are in bloom, peonies, allium, irises, and more.

That's it for today. Too busy in the yard, plus my last surviving great aunt just broke her hip. She's 95, so we all know what that means. I need to see her tomorrow while I still can. She's sharp still. But blind and getting very old. We had a wonderful lunch with lots of my quizzing her about the olden days, just a month ago. I'm glad I'll have that memory.
